2800-1550BC Stonehenge was built during this period

2750BC the first Beaker People arrive

2600BC Silbury was created and Avebury too

2500BC saw the first sea-faring invasions to reach Britain

2500-750BC was the Bronze Age

750BC was the start of the Iron Age

600-33BC was when the Celtic invasions really took hold

55AD was the time that Julius Caesar invaded

407AD most of the Roman's had left by now

300AD saw the Saxons arrive

871-901 we were at war against the Danes led by Alfred the Great (he who burnt the cakes)

973 King Edgar crowned as the first king of all England

1016-1035 King Canute, the Dane, in charge

1066 William the Conqueror defeated Harold at the Battle of Hastings

1086 the Domesday Book created which was basically the first census of how many people lived where and owned what, for taxation purposes.

1215 The Magna Carta was signed between King John and the barons

1337-1485 saw the 100 years war

1348-1350 was the time when the Black Death wiped out half the population

1492 Christopher Columbus discovered America (although this is disputed)

1588 Drake defeated the Spanish Armada

1620 the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America

1642-1645 the English Civil War, when Cromwell took over from the Monarchy

1660 the monarchy was restored with Charles II

1685 the Bloody Assizes presided over by the notorious Judge Jeffries

1707 saw the uniting of Scotland with England

1769 was the first trip to Australia by Captain Cook

1775-1783 the American war of Independence

1800 Ireland united with England

1807 abolition of the slave trade
